Pet owners do many things to keep their pets safe. In the case of dogs,
owners take them to the veterinarian, brush their hair, take care of their
teeth, get them proper collars, and in some cases, even get a fence installed to
keep them from danger.
But many owners struggle with the decision on whether or not to get their pet an
electric dog fence. They sometimes think they're cruel or painful. If you are
deciding whether to get one or not, then you need to consider their benefits.
An electronic dog fence works by burying an electic cable under the ground,
marking with it the desired perimeter of the electric fence. Then, a receiver is
built into a dogs collar so that when it attempts to walk outside the
perimeter, a mild shock is applied to stop them.
An advantage of an electronic dog fence is that it doesn't block the view of
your yard, like a wooden fence would do. You also dont have to deal with things
like zoning laws since you dont have to get permits as you arent actually
building anything. So, you can keep your pet safe and inside your property
without building or constructing an actual fence.
There are also some disadvantages, of course. While an electronic fence will not
let your dog go out, other dogs can come in perfectly. They add a lot of
security to a home, regardless of their actual type. Some houses also actually
look better with fences as well. Electric dog fences can be overcome if the
shock is too mild for your dog to mind it, or if it's too excited by its "prey"
to even notice the shock. And once they do cross it, they may actually not want
to come back because crossing over the perimeter fence means that they get
shocked, and they may choose to avoid it altogether.
An electric dog fence is a good idea for keeping your dog inside. Unlike other fences, it doesn't block the way or view of your yard. However, if your dog manages to get to the other side of the electronic dog fence, it'll have problems coming back.
