Chinese Pug Puppies

Suggestions on Breed….?

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

….or if we should even get another dog at all.
When our son was growing up, we had two Chinese pugs. Our son has left home and the pugs got old and have passed on. We miss them, but it has been almost two years now and we’re thinking about getting a dog. We’re older and I’m retired, so I don’t really want a puppy. We also don’t have a fenced back yard and we don’t believe in shock collars. My husband and I are at odds somewhat. I miss having a loyal companion when he is at work. I don’t miss having to clean up the shedded dog hair all the time. My husband is very active in his off-hours and wants a dog he may be able to take along on his bicycle rides. I’m not that active. What would you suggest under these circumstances? I could get a lap dog for me, my husband could get a more active dog for him, but I’m the one who is going to be home with the dog most of the time. I am the more dominant personality in the household, and my husband has a tendency to spoil dogs and let them get away with just about anything.
Should we even get a dog? Any answers appreciated.

I’m not averse to a larger dog.
Both my husband and I are allergic to cats.

You should get one dog that will be a weekend warrior with your husband and a couch-potato with you during the week. Greyhounds are fantastic for this- and they’re a dime a dozen in rescue. Ex-racers are generally between two and six years of age.

I agree with the poster above who suggests you get an older dog. It doesn’t sound like you have patience for a puppy (which is entirely understandable- puppies aren’t for everybody).

As far as the no fence situation goes- invisible fencing isn’t so much a shock collar as it is a barrier. Most dogs only need to get shocked once or twice and won’t test the fence line after that, so it might be worth looking into. An invisible fence can save your dog’s life (what if Fido bolts out the front door when you have a guest?)- if you aren’t willing to put up a hard fence, you should at least consider training your dog on an invisible one.

Do You Think It Is Ok for Me to Get 28 More Dogs?

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Ok so here is what is happening, My aunt is immagrating to Canada in January 2010, so she said on MSN when she moves here she will stay in our basment and we will get another dog. After we went off MSN I told my Mom that my Aunt said that we could get another dog when she moves here and then she said ok thats good but after five minutes she actually said I could get as many dogs as I want when my aunt moves here. And she really meant it seriously even though she has OCD lol. So she said maximum 30 dogs. Big dogs in the basment with my Aunt, and small dogs up stairs where we live.
Will these dogs get along.

Whats the Best Breed of Dog?

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Hi. I'm looking for a new puppy and I was wondering what the best breed of dog is. I would prefer a toy breed as I'm not sure weather could handle training a boisterous big dog. Here's all the small dogs I'm aware of as have been looking at toy & utility groups. Could you tell me which ones you think are the best and abit about them etc. Also a picture if possible. Thanks, much appreciated xx
Also best trainable one. x
Affenpinscher
Austrailian Silky Terrier
Bichon Friese
Bolognese
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Chihuahua (long & Smooth)
Chinese Crested & Powderpuff
Havanese
Japanese Chin
Maltese
Papillon
Pekingese
Pomeranian
Pug
Yorkshire Terrier
Shih Tzu
Lhasa Apso

Sounds like you want a chocolate sundae….but all you've listed is stuff from the salad bar.
A schizophrenic labrador on crack would be much easier to train and handle than anything on your list.

Teacup and Pocket Puppy Questions?

Sunday, February 15th, 2009

I have seen this topic over and over again. Both sides are adamant that they are correct. I have seen people state that if you google it you will get hundreds of pictures so they must be a real breed. That is not true, I could put a picture up of a flying purple people eater that does not mean they exist. I am of the belief that there are no such things as teacup and pocket dogs. That they are fancy names that people put on runts to try and get them to sell and when they did they started breeding runts together and called it a breed.

I have been all over the AKC website and I found a toy group. These were the dogs listed in the section:

Affenpinscher
Brussels Griffon
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Chihuahua
Chinese Crested
English Toy Spaniel
Havanese
Italian Greyhound
Japanese Chin
Maltese
Manchester Terrier
Miniature Pinscher
Papillon
Pekingese
Pomeranian
Poodle
Pug
Shih Tzu
Silky Terrier
Toy Fox Terrier
Yorkshire Terrier

Not one mention of a teacup or pocket.

If it cannot be registered as an actual breed with a reputable registry then how can you call it a "breed"? And yes I do know that there are more reputable regisries than just AKC so if one of them has a teacup or a pocket please let me know. Also why would you want a dog smaller than this? Some of those breeds are less than 6 pounds. I really want actual facts so if you are going to respond with "because they are" or "there are pictures of them so they must be a real breed" please don't. I want to have true information so that we can educate people on what is true and what is made up. Thank you.
Lexy–There were two questions (they both had questions marks).

1. Why do you (or anyone) believe that a teacup or pocket dog is a breed, and what is your proof?

2. Why would you want something smaller as some dogs are already under 6 pounds?
I am not looking to get one of these dogs. I am just trying to find why people think this is a breed, or group. Does anyone have any proof?

I see this people looking for a teacup or a pocket puppy and I do not think they exist. If I am wrong I would like to know. So if anyone has any proof or real information I would like to know about it.

Thanks
Thank you to everyone who responded. I really do want to try and understand both sides of this issue. I am aware that this is a difficult question as each side has their own seperate opinion. I like to hear both sides if I can, when I can, to any issue. Thanks again.

. Why do you (or anyone) believe that a teacup or pocket dog is a breed, and what is your proof?
A teacup or pocket dog is not a breed. It is a term used to describe a particular dog in a given breed. For Example. a Teacup pomeranian. The breed is a pomeranian and is registered as a pomeranian. But Teacup describes the actually size. Poms can be very small or medium

2. Why would you want something smaller as some dogs are already under 6 pounds?
I have a pomeranian who is only 3 pounds and yes she is full grown. People like small dogs that they can travel with. The small the less room, and feed required.

My 7 Month Old Male Puppy (Chinese Pug) Will Not Potty Train for Me. What Do I Do?

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

I have obviously goofed, cause he's got the idea to immediately pee each time he comes inside! How do I correct this? Also, he is getting neutered this week. Will this make a difference?
Thanks in advance….

is it cold out side?? smaller dogs getting potty trained in the winter is like the hardest thing possible best thing is when he starts to go correct him let him know he did something wrong (Verbally) then take him back out side to finish other wise if you keep letting him go inside it will become a game and he will think its okay to go inside and if you try to correct him when he is older he will just hide it example poop under your bed or behind the couch so you cant yell at him!

best thing you can do take him out right after he eats and continuously take him out side every 20-30 mins until he gets the hang of it and ask him each time before you take him out if he has to go out side or go potty or something like that so he can link the two together
