We dont want to put a fence
a. Its expensive
b. We are on a hill
c. NO invisible fence it hurts dogs NO

So you want to train the dogs to be off leash, no fence?

He has had another dog living with him in the past, a rather small terrier cross that died of old age some time ago.

My question is, do you recommend a small dog (Like a Pug, Boston Terrier, Mini-Pin etc) with a Dane? I'm thinking on a puppy but would love some thoughts on it.

I think it's perfectly fine i have a beagle and one day we brought home a german shepherd/boxer mix and they get along so great together they run together and play together and never get in fights (unless over food) but on the other hand its a really good ideal to me!!!

if your concerned when you get the dogs together just keep a eye on them and make sure they bond!!

How long approximately can they be left alone? I don't want to be cruel and leave it in the house all day… I heard when they are puppies they need loads of attention. So if I got one that was already fully grown would that be better?
Or should I just wait till I have a job where I can keep him with me all the time?
Mini pug: This dog is a mix of a Chihuahua and a Pug dog. The result is a canine that looks extremely similar to a Pug, however one can notice a difference in the length of the snout which will be just a bit longer. This mixed breed dog will weigh a total of approximately 3 pounds (1.36 kg) when fully grown.

"Mini Pugs"? LOL No such thing. If you want a Pug, get the best one you can from the best breeder you can who's not filling your head with made up crap to pass off a sickly runt or mixed breed on you with nonsense.

That is an incredibly vague description. It does sound like there is definately something bothering him though. Dogs will change in the way you've described when they are ill with something, but it's impossible to know what just like that. It is really important that you get him checked by a vet.

What is a crate? I live in Western Australia and I have never heard that term being used before. Also my pup is about 4 months old now.

6 weeks is still very young. Be patient and consistent.
