Ok, when I’m out in the backyard, I’ll take my pug pup. I want to let him free but he barks at my older dog, and I’m not sure if this will make the jack hurt him, and I won’t be able to stop them two. The jack just looks at him, when the pug barks at him, and looks away, like he’s saying, whatever, I don’t care. And I’m scared the pup will bother the jack when he pees, or walking in the grassy area. He also sneaks into his kennel. should I let them two play in the backyard? The jack is 7 and the pug is 4 months old
Yes, let them play! Supervise them at first and step in if things get too rough, but pups learn a lot through play with adult dogs and adult dogs (even JRTs) usually tolerate puppy silliness to a point. Your jack will tell the pug when he is getting out of line and teach him to mind his manners.
In truth, I’d be more worried about the jack leading the pug into trouble (terriers love sidekicks to get into mischief with) than about him hurting the pup!

For now let them play together when you are close by. You wouldnt leave them together while you are away because you would just worry the whole time. When you fill comfy with the situation then let them play away. The older dog is going to want to tell the little one he is boss. This was his house first remember. But put your fears away . They will work it out. Dont hover over them, They can tell if you are stressed and thats not going to help.
I just read answer given by BEAUTIFUL and she is right. My JRT would start chewing on the dog beds and get my Min Pin worked up about this new game she started. But as soon as she heard me coming she would stop and left him holding the scraps. She also showed him where the treats were and How fun it was to dig in the plants . They are so funny I cant get mad at them!

Small dogs think they are big and they do bark at bigger dogs. They have to get used to each other, so let them play. They may fight a little, but it is normal.

To avoid jealousy I’d let them play while I’m close by, maybe introducing them while on leads first. Your Jack Russell will probably wont to show your Pug pup that he’s the boss, just let them know your the boss by being assertive with them both, especially if one growls at the other. Once they get used to each other and are happily playing, it’s most likely safe to let them around each other without your presence.
