Mini Pugs

Ok Crunch Time..pug..or Mini Schnauzer? I’m Down to These Two and Need Help!!?

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

Ok i’ve posted a couple things about me and my hubby getting a 4th (yes 4th) dog. We are down to deciding between these two.
– We are active and play with our current dogs alot we give them TONS of attention and they get training.
–We do have a fenced in yard and room in the house to play.
– We go to the dog park every day for an hour-hour 1/2 (even in winter we try to go as much as we can)
–My currents dogs (2 yr old mini aussie, 4/5ish yr old border collie/husky mix, and 1yr 2 mnth old german shephard/golden retriever) are very good dogs and trained. They listen to me and my hubby (the aussie is extremely intelligent!)
–We want to get pregnant sometime later next year so we would have about a year to train the puppy if not more before the child is actually here

So with these things in mind which of the two would be better for us..we are both slightly leaning towards the mini schnauzer (my dad has one and he’s a good boy!) What would you say??? Thank you!

You really have your hands busy. I was a Miniature Schnauzer breeder for 20 years and they are a delightful playful and happy little breed, however the grooming can be a nightmare even if you do it yourself, and an ungroomed Schnauzer looks like any old mutt you’d see in the street.
If you decide on a MS I would definitely recommend either the black and silver or the solid black variety as they are not nearly as hyper and noisy as the salt and peppers and have not the inherited health problems so common in the salt and pepper variety.
I’ve never owned a Pug, but I’ve had them in my training classes and they can be adorable. The grooming is sure a heck of a lot easier than the Schnauzers……lol
For what it’s worth, here is the AKC standard for both breeds;

Pug, Mini Schnauzer, Pomeranian and Other Small Breed Dog Owners Out There..i Got a Question!!?

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

Ok we have 3 dogs now…one smallish (32lbs) a Med (50lbsish) and a somewhat large (80lbs) dog.. Me and my hubby want to get another…below 25lbs adult size..and I want one of these breeds..I have owned a mini schnauze before and I’ve never had a problem no crabbines or anything. My sister seems to think differently though she thinks they are crabby and mean (all of the breeds I said) so owners what would you say??? Are they moody and crabby and snappy??

It really all depends on how they are raised, and if they are well socialized.

Pugs have TONS of attitude, and they range from completely stuck-up, to i want to lick everyone’s face.

Schnauzers are very social dogs, and normally get along well with other people.

Pomeranian’s in my mind are very ditzy and super friendly.

Mini Pot Belly Pigs With Dogs?

Friday, July 8th, 2011

Hi,

I’ve started thinking about adopting a mini pot belly pig. I currently own 2 full grown pugs, and I’m very capable of catering for the pig’s special needs. My biggest concern though, is how the pets will get along with each other.

My pugs are my everything in life – I adore them more than anything. I’ve read that pigs tend to get aggressive with their territorial instincts, and the last thing I need is to get home from work and see that it’s attacked one of my dogs.

I know that they’re trainable to suppress this territorial urge, but I’m scared something goes wrong.

Am I being a bit too parranoid?

It is generally not recommended to mix dogs and pigs together, it is only rare occurrences when they do work.

Also, a "mini" pig gets about 150lbs and the size of a Labrador, only 5x as strong. A "mini" Pot Belly could easily flip a Pug right up in the air with their extremely powerful snout. An adult Pot Belly can push over a adult man. They are incredibly strong bulldozers.

Also, Pigs are NOT house pets. They are extremely curious, intelligent and destructive – they will learn how to raid the fridge and bins, bash through any defences put in their way, root up your carpet, and easily move furniture around. They need large outdoor paddocks and field shelters filled with straw to be content!

Which Is Better in General: PUG or MINI SCHNAUZER?

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

A chinese pug is known for having $30,000+ Nose/nasal surgeries in the US.
A friend of mine had her pug brought in for the surgery around six years old.
The nose it too close to the face and they develop problems.

Mini Schnauzers bark too much and like a chihuahua, they can be territorial and unfriendly towards other people.

Consider buying a Corgie.
Welsh Corgie’s are great dogs.

Mini Schnauzers or Pug? Which Is Better?

Sunday, May 22nd, 2011

I’m not sure which breed to get… Do they have different personalities?

Both dogs could be wonderful to have, but yes they have different personalities and have different pros and cons. I’ll give you some info on both of them:)

http://www.nextdaypets.com/directory/breeds/1100216/

If you want a dog who…

* Is small, yet sturdy and blocky
* Has a short face with large expressive eyes
* Has a soft coat that’s easy to groom
* Is usually polite with everyone, including other pets
* Doesn’t need much exercise
* Seldom gets into real mischief — adults spend much of the day snoring

A Pug may be right for you.

If you don’t want to deal with…

* Snorting, snuffling, wheezing, snoring, some slobbering
* Gassiness (flatulence)
* Slowness to housebreak
* Constant shedding — every day
* Quite a few potential health problems due to his deformed face

A Pug may not be right for you.

If you want a dog who…

* Is large and strong, yet also lithe and elegant
* Has a wiry coat that doesn’t shed too much and a whiskery face with a wise expression
* Plays hard and thrives on vigorous athletic activities
* Looks imposing, so makes an effective deterrent and keen watchdog
* Is intelligent and versatile — when well-trained, can learn and do almost anything

A Giant Schnauzer may be right for you.
If you don’t want to deal with…

* Vigorous exercise requirements
* Rowdiness and exuberant jumping, especially when young
* Destructiveness when bored or not exercised enough
* Potential aggression or fearfulness in some lines, or when not socialized enough
* Potential aggression toward other animals
* Strong-willed mind of his own, requiring a confident owner who can take charge
* Regular clipping and trimming of the wiry coat

A Giant Schnauzer may not be right for you. Theres some info and good luck!:)

Is There a Such Thing as a "Miniature Pug" Puppy ?

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

My mom Loves Pugs, but she only likes them when they’re Puppies. Lol… People tell me I should just get us a Mini Pug, but is there even a such thing …? If so, Where do I find one?

Nope – Pugs come in one size. Anything advertised as "Miniature" or "Teacup" you should run away from. It just means it’s the runt of the litter and they use those words because it tends to sucker in gullible buyers.

Mini Usb From Camera..will It Plug Into My Laptop?

Monday, March 7th, 2011

Will my mini usb cable pug into my laptop and download pictures

Well webcams are supposed to take/capture pictures and videos and save them to your computer. They are not used to download.

If you want to test your webcam, plug in the webcam. Allow the operating system to load the necessary driver. Open your Windows Movie Maker. Set the webcam as the input source. Capture a few clips and take snapshots.

Considering a German Shepherd for My First Dog?

Saturday, February 19th, 2011

I have owned dogs before with my family but I am looking for a dog for just me. I have been doing a lot of research and I like the GSD but I am afraid that he might be to much for a first time dog. I have also considered a boxer. What are yalls thoughts? I want a larger dog so no mini schnauzer or pug comments

German shepherds are great dogs.I know information states that they are not for a first time dog owner but I think that more applies to someone that has no experience of dogs at all.
I grew up with dogs including german shepherds so when it was time to choose a pup for my own family/home,I couldn’t think of a dog other than a german shepherd.
As with most of the other answers,Puppy training classes are a must not just for the pup but for you as an owner,also great fun and socialisation for your pup.
Be firm but gentle,German shepherds work well training in a positive way with lots of treats,they are not so good with harsher training methods.
They are eager and quick to learn,loyal,loving and excellent companions for children providing they have training,supervision with small children and lots of exercise.
They do shed badly and my GSD that I have now loses so much fur,I joke I could make another dog out of it every day.
I hoover and ten minutes later there is fur everywhere even places he hasn’t been.
Also be prepared to never feel fully dressed without GSD hair on your outfit.
Great dogs,buy from a reputable breeder,look at both parents and a good breeder will have the pups vet checked.
Enjoy your dog!
