My boyfriend and I are getting a dog. I have always had a thing for those funny little pugs. I’m wondering what kind of pet would a pug be and if it’s right for us. Do they shed a lot? because I would hate that. Do they have many health problems later on? How long do they live? Do they do well in a small 1 bedroom apartment? And are they friendly with little kids and hamsters? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Pugs do shed, quite a bit- they are double-coated. They are noted for having a good deal of health difficulties, however, buying from a reputable breed-club member can minimize those risks. They do well with apartment living, being generally lower energy and having low exercise needs. They are good with small kids but do need supervision as their eyes can be easily damaged during play since they protrude. They do not have especially high prey drives, but as with any predatory animal shouldn’t be left alone around small furry critters. They love people and are very social dogs. I personally enjoy them, I grew up with a couple. But they do shed quite a lot, and that’s one of the reasons I do not have one currently, so if that will bother you, look elsewhere. You may check out the Boston Terrier, which is similar in temperament, though has a higher energy level.
I have a pug dog, that is acting very strange, almost like he has alzheimers, doesnt hop up when other dogs are outside, when he use to, dazed, confused, and usually he is very active, does anyone know what this might be from? Thank You
A healthy pug can live 12-15 years.

That is an incredibly vague description. It does sound like there is definately something bothering him though. Dogs will change in the way you’ve described when they are ill with something, but it’s impossible to know what just like that. It is really important that you get him checked by a vet.
Ok so we are planning to buy a pug so we called a person who sales them, he says he has a male and a female from the same litter. And we are planning to cross them both together IF we buy them but one question …Is it okay to cross dogs from the same litter? You know sister and brother. I just want to make sure on that please. And if you know on any helpful information on pugs like their attitude, issues, health, care, personality, training stuff like that. Thank you very much!!?
Absolutely not ok at all!!! do some study and research and don’t breed dogs.
I have had dogs all my life and a year ago i bought a pug dog. I have never had such a good dog. There so sweet and loving. If you have one you know what im talkin about. They are a hassle with there ears and eyes but there worth it.
i have a pug and he is the most adorable dog ever! he doesn’t snort like some people may think and he isn’t overweight because i monitor what he eats. they were made to be companions and thats what they do. mine follows me around and sits on my lap and gives tons of love everyday. nothing in the world is better than a pug!!!!
I want a pug really bad but my family doesn’t think there a very good dog
Just recently got a pug about a year ago named him Bruno! He is a very good dog and a very bad dog. He barks at everything. Doors shutting, other animals on TV, loud voices, he barks at anything. He also goes to the bath room in the house and we can not break the habbit no matter what we try. However he is very playful, cute, and great with small kids. I wuld never give him up! They are great lap dogs as well. If your thinking of getting one def go for it. It also goes with how you train him. If you train him well from the beginning you should have no problem. Enjoy it.
Are there any statistics on how many Pug dogs, of ALL pug dogs everywhere, get this disease?
The Pug breed club has some research stats: http://www.pugs.org/indexhealth.htm
I don’t know weather to get a black pug or fawn color pug,is there any difference’s ? thanksx
i was meaning in temprament ect !
None but the color of the coat!
Could i attend college and still have a pug dog? I really want one, but i have a social life and id be not home at night a few nights of the week. Would he get lonely and be all mopey and depressed?
But I am only gonna be gone for like 3 hours at night maybe like 5 at most and only like 2 nights a week.
And i would have to go to class tuesdays thursdays like 3 hours
Actually, all dogs get lonely. it’s very unrealistic for any dog to be left home alone for long hours. Should this be your case, make sure to train your dog to be left home alone or at least, have someone stay with him.
Here’s a link you can read on on the complete breed profile of the pug, it’s personality, breed highlights, health, etc.

My family is planning on buying a pug, and I’d like to know if there are any well known mixes out there. Serious answers only, please. And no ‘why would you do that’ answers. Thanks ![]()
It is fairly common to cross breed pugs, nowdays.
With the amount of genetic problems that these dogs can have- I dont really see why it is a bad idea to mix them and try to breed out these problems, but if you do choose to get a mix, please either try to adopt one from a shelter, or from a good breeder who tests their dogs, etc- before breeding them- and not from a backyard breeder, pet store, puppymill, etc.
Breeding pugs with other breeds should ensure that they have longer noses, so they wont have as much difficulty breathing, etc, etc, so I think I would prefer to have a mix than a pure when it comes to this breed.
Common mixes with pugs include Jack Russell crosses & Cavalier King Charles Spaniel crosses. Cant think of any more at the moment.
