My 6 Year Old Rescue Pug Has Not Peed Once Since I’ve Had Her??!?

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

It is Wednesday at 10am now, I got her on saturday at 3pm. She has not peed once! I took her to the vet on Monday, they said her utirus was infected and that I needed to spay her immediatly or she could die. I got her spayed yesterday(Tuesday) and she still has not gone. What could this be??is she ok??
The place I got her from just used her for breeding, she had 4 litters, and they kept her outside or in a barn. She has never been in a house before I got her.
She pooped once on Monday. She drinks very little and will only eat cheese and tuna fish out of the can. She seems normal besides not peeing. She wags her tail and walks with my other dogs.

The fact that she has had 4 litters could be to do with it and it could be a problem you can’t fix, but I thinnk that it’s more likely that the dog is not used to being kept inside, I recommend you get a temperarry run put in you garden or something and keep her in there for a few days, check on her recually and if she still has not gone you might want to comsider talking to a vet about getting her put down as she could be in pain.
I also recommend calling the place you got her from and asking them if she has ever hasd any problems like this before.

What Kind of Bed Is Good for a Pug?

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

I am going to be fostering one of the many rescued pugs from the Buffalo Pug and Small Breed Rescue
( http://www.buffalopugs.org/ ) And need to buy the supplies for a dog and was wondering what size to get. Thanks

16 x 20 should work great for Pug’s and nice soft fleece material. All my pups love it.

And a wonderful thing you are doing – Being a foster parent.

PAWS UP TO YOU !!

Want to Adopt a Cat – Have a Pug – Will They Get Along?

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

I have a pug that is friendly – yet who is mostly calm. There is a cat who is 4 years old, "good" with dogs, declawed, neutered and has it’s shots that I want to rescue/adopt. I know there’s no way to tell for sure, but in your opinion do you think they’d make a good pair? Any experienced pug and cat owners? Thanks!

Sure! Dogs and Cats can get along great, despite popular myth. It might be a bit harder since they are older, but I think they will do fine. Make sure to introduce them through a gate first to see their reactions, and keep them seperated for the first few days to let the cat settle in.

Good luck!

And remember to always give the cat a way out. If it doesn’t go as planned, they need a way to get away from each other.

Does Anyone Know of a Rescue Group That Would Take a Boston Terrier and a Boston Terrier Pug Mix?

Monday, October 26th, 2009

We have several dogs, and unfortunately, the Boston terrier and the Boston- pug mix have attacked and seriously injured one of our other dogs. They also have not yet become fully housebroken after 2 years of training. We got them from a shelter, but do not want to return them there, as they may be put to sleep. They are good with people, just not good in a home with other pets. We would like to place both of them with the same rescue, in hopes of keeping them together.

If you’re in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, or Ohio you can try here

Or you can try googling Boston Terrier rescue and your state.

Having a Pug Party in Honor of Local Pug Rescue?

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

We are having a Pug Party in honor of Pug Rescue (in our area) and we are concerned with safety. It is an indoor event we expect at least 60-100 pugs (or more) and don’t want to see anyone or any dog get hurt. We are trying to limit the event to purebred pugs because our local trainer recommended that purebred anything get along like a pack best and would be the least likely to start fighting or to cause a raucous. What precautions can I take to make sure it is a safe event and also, I don’t like to think about this, what can I do to safeguard myself against lawsuits if someone (a pug most likely) does start a fight and someone gets hurt? I love these pugs and just want fun for all, but I do have to think about ramifications. Any advice??? Any otrher safety tips as well???
We have a large American Legion Hall and we have done this for 5 years running without incident, but our local pug rescue has decided to go for broke, so to speak, and has advertised out of our local area and has also gotten a TV station to do a news talk interview the Thursday prior to the event and I am starting to get a little apprehensive about all areas of safety. There will be water for the pugs and there is plenty of outdoor area for the pugs to go to the bathroom (on leash of course). I just feel like our local pug rescue is trying to squeeze this event dry to make money for her organization and I understand her point of view, but I also don’t want to over do it either.

100 pugs? i surely hope you have a large bulding to host this as well as an out door play area. These animals need a place to go to the bathroom as well as drinking water.

Make sure there are POSTED leash rules and have people sign a wavier of liability stating you are not a fault for lost or hurt animals.

This is very risky, what youre doing, so take all precautions espeically legal ones!!

Do You Have to Pay for Dogs From Rescue Homes?

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

Well, my mum says i can have a dog if i buy it myself, however i want a small dog like a pug or a jack russel but they can be really expensive. And i was thinking as the rescue dogs home wants more people to give a dog a home are the dogs free? Or do you pay monthly or something. I like in the UK as well if that helps. Thanks!

Every place is different, however most places ask you to pay a once of fee to cover things such as vaccinations, desexing, vet checks etc to ensure you get a dog which is in good health and condition. Most of these places rely on charitable donations from people who care to help these poor dogs which are in need of a good home and lot of the workers there are volunteers. I think it is a very nice thing that you are considering giving a homeless dog from a rescue home a new family and place to call home. I hope you find yourself a lovely new pet.

Well, the pug won’t be able to really hurt the cat because it’s small, so I wouldn’t worry. Introduce them slowlly.

How Big Does a Pug Get?

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Hello,
I rescued/Adopted a 5 month old Male Pug. Only have had him for about 2 weeks. i took Ozzy to the Vet for his rabie shot. He weighs 14lbs. But he looks so Big boned. He is a Pure AKC Pug. I read that Fawn Pugs are Bigger then other color Pugs. Is that True?

Pugs are only supposed to weigh up to 18lbs. by AKC standards. That being said, my pug is a year old and weighed 26lbs at his last check-up. He isn't overfed or inactive, he's just a big boy. Most of his "pug friends" are big as well, the breed is just predisposed to packing on the pounds regardless of how healthy you keep them. I have noticed that black pugs are smaller than fawn(my boy is a fawn). I don't know why,I'm sure like all traits it is genetic and that there are big black pugs too, but every black pug I've seen is "daintier". Good luck with your pug, as long as you feed him healthy food in the proper amount and walk him he'll be fine.

Rescue Centre in England, Midlands With Pugs for Adoption?

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

I'm looking for a pug and I thought that the best idea would be to look for a pug in a rescue centre. Seeing as breeders are expensive and only do it for the money. So does anyone know of any rescue centres in the Midlands of England with pugs up for adoption?

http://www.pugdogclub.org.uk/

http://www.pugwelfare-rescue.org.uk/

I would suggest you contact the Pug dog club or Pug Welfare, to enquire about the availability of Pugs & the adoption process. You may have to patient as the rescue will match the right pug to the right home.
